A chronicle of the early years of country legend Johnny Cash, from his beginnings on a cotton farm in Arkansas to his rise at Sun Records in Memphis, where Cash recorded his first hits alongside Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis in the mid-1950s. The film traces Cash's path as an odyssey between alcohol and amphetamine addiction, outbursts of rage and despair, on which his exceptional talent and his love for fellow professional June Carter, whom he married years later, saved him from the final crash.
