Richard Wanley is a psychology professor who specializes in criminology. One day he gets involved in a criminal case himself: he lets himself be invited home late at night by the woman whose portrait he admires in a shop window. There he is surprised by the woman's wild-eyed sugar daddy, whom he stabs in self-defense. When he tries to cover up the killing with the help of the stranger, he gets into hot water.
